Good old fashioned dirty fun at the Peak District Mountain Bike Challenge 2011
Saturday 8th October was the British Heart Foundation Peak Districk Mountain Bike Challenge 2011 in the Hope Valley (Derbyshire). With over 350 participants showing their support, and signing up to between 14 and 39 miles of challenging off road riding, it was a great chance for Abarth the team to pop along to the Autoworld Abarth Chesterfield and JE James Cycles supported event.
Both Michael O'Brien and John Holbrook from the Abarth MTB racing team made an early start Saturday morning, to ensure they could be at the startling to cheer on the participants as they set off for their respective rides. With both of their Saracen Myst team bikes in attendance, along with one of Autoworld’s best Abarth Punto Evo’s on display, it was a great chance for the riders to meet our two downhill stars, and check out the equipment, before the long ride ahead.
The event was a great success, and Autoworld’s own Dean McFarlane completed the full 39 mile loop. Even though Michael had completely the wrong bike for the occasion, it didn’t stop him from getting involved, and after joining in with the start, it was only a reminder that he hadn’t actually signed up that stopped him from taking on what would’ve been a very long ride on an 8 inch travel downhill bike!
Although conditions were very tough… rainy, wet, muddy and slippy the atmosphere was great and lots of money was raised for the British Heart Foundation.
